Wrinkles: NOOOOO!!!

I just read about sun damage this article on Yahoo Health and had to share. This man is 69 years old, he spent 28 years as a truck driver. His left side is significantly more wrinkled than his right because he spent years driving with the left side of his face exposed to the sun. His picture was a huge wakeup call to remind me to wear sunblock. Living in California everyone wants a tan. Most westerners equate having a tan as having a "healthy glow". Some of my friends tell me that a tan can make you look thinner as well. Well a tan is really the skin trying to protect itself from sun damage. Tanning can not only lead to premature aging (WRINKLES!!!) but also skin damage, a lower immune system, and CANCER.

Applying sunblock consistently and frequently reduces the harmful effects of the sun's rays. SPF filters out 93% of all incoming UVB rays while SPF 50 keeps out 98%. No sunblock can eliminate all UV rays BUT 98% sounds better than 0%. Below are some budget friendly choices to help your face stay protected and of course age gracefully.

Neutrogena Healthy Defense $11 (drugstore.com). It blocks UVB and skin aging UVA rays. This is the moisturizer my ex-dermatologist recommends and he looks like he is 18 -even though he probably is 35.

I've never tried this moisturizer but it has great reviews and is also only $11. Olay Complete Defense SPF 30

Neutrogena Healthy Defense Liquid Moisturizer SPF 50  $11.59

  1. oh my goodness! I tend to choose foundation with UV and particularly now I've been using Garnier's BB. I also carry powder sunblock on my car - I like it better since it's super easy to apply and absolutely non-greasy. Quite frankly, I don't like most sunblock creams' texture, so oily!
